Watches
10:51 AM AST Saturday 05 January 2019 Winter storm watch in effect for (areas in yellow)
Light snow will develop Sunday morning along the Strait and spread northwestward throughout the day. The snow will become heavy at times by Sunday afternoon from L'anse au Clair to Norman Bay and by Sunday evening up to Cartwright and through the Eagle River area. The heavy snow will persist into Monday with the potential for 30 cm or more of snowfall accumulation in some areas. Lesser snowfall amounts are expected north of Groswater Bay.
Strong northerly winds will develop late Sunday over southeastern Labrador and will spread northward to Makkovik Sunday night, becoming northwesterly on Monday. Wind gusts in excess of 100 km/h are expected in many areas and will combine with the snow to give widespread blizzard like conditions.
The snow and winds will taper off later Monday into Monday night. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
