Storms are beginning to initiate across southern Manitoba. The first storm of the day is firing over Carman, MB, with many more possible throughout the afternoon. Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm watches to account for this:
Watches
1:08 PM CDT Monday 08 July 2019 Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for areas in yellow:
Conditions are favourable for the development of very dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, destructive hail and torrential rain.
Thunderstorms will develop over southern Manitoba this afternoon as hot and humid conditions settle in. Some of these thunderstorms will be severe. These thunderstorms will last well into the evening and some will persist past midnight. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
