Blowing snow advisories issued for Manitoba

Statements

4:35 AM CST Wednesday 23 January 2019 Blowing snow advisory in effect for areas in grey

Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring. Blowing snow late this afternoon and tonight.

Light snow and northerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h will develop over much of southern Manitoba late this afternoon as a low pressure system crosses the region. Visibilities in snow and blowing snow will be poor and continue into the evening hours accompanied by rapidly falling temperatures. The blowing snow will subside late this evening as winds gradually diminish and the snow tapers off.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.
