Blizzard closes I-29 & I-94 in North Dakota


Blizzard continues in North Dakota and adjacent Minnesota. At this time, Interstate 29 from Fargo to Grand Forks and I-94 from Fargo to Jamestown are closed. Surrounding highways are under no travel advisories.

Snow will continue to fall today with winds already gusting up to 40 mph. Isolated blizzard conditions are expected to expand in coverage as gusts become more frequent and widespread down the valley. Multiple reports of a quarter mile or less visibility in open country this morning. Additional snow will fall through mid-afternoon. Blizzard and ground blizzard conditions will lead to widespread areas of sharply reduced visibility, especially in open country. North winds gusting as high as 40 mph will continue through this evening. -NWS Grand Forks, ND

EVENING...

* WHAT...Heavy snow with additional accumulations of 1 to 3
  inches expected. Blizzard and ground blizzard conditions. Winds
  gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of west central Minnesota and southeast North
  Dakota.

* WHEN...Until 9 PM CST this evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult. Widespread
  blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The
  hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening
  commute. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero
  will cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10
  minutes.
